Fixed Route Service
The Winston-Salem Transit Authority has been providing transportation services to Winston-Salem residents and visitors since 1972. With service Monday through Saturday throughout the Winston-Salem community, WSTA is dedicated to providing you with the highest quality public transportation system possible.

The Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA) was created in 1972 when the City of Winston-Salem assumed operations from a private bus transportation system operated by the Safe Bus Company. WSTA is governed by an eight-person board comprised of representatives appointed by the City Council of Winston-Salem, upon the recommendation of the Mayor. Each WSTA board member serves for a term of three years.

With 27 weekly routes, operating between 5:30am and 12:00 midnight Monday through Friday and from 6:30 am through 6:30 pm on Saturday , WSTA makes over 2 million passenger trips. For more information on the Winston-Salem Transit Authority, call 336-727-2000.

Mobility Management
Any passengers in need of information regarding fixed-route bus service schedules, bus stop locations, etc. and eligible persons who wish to use Trans-AID services to schedule trips in advance of the day they wish to travel, should call the Mobility Management Department.

The friendly and knowledgeable staff will assist callers via the telephone.

They can even plan a trip for you when you want to ride the bus or use Trans-AID.

Passengers with disabilities may qualify for half-fare bus passes for fixed-route transportation. To request an application contact WSTA's ADA Coordinator at 336-727-2000.

·        After WSTA has received your complete application and you are determined eligible for the half –fare program, you will receive a temporary half-fare ID card by mail. The green ID card will not have a photograph on it; however it can be used along with a half-fare pass which must be shown to the operator when you board the bus.

·        Within a period of 30 days, you can be photographed for a permanent Transit ID card on the 2nd floor of the Clark Campbell Transportation Center in the Mobility Management office.

·        Once you have received your permanent picture ID, you will be able to use public transportation at half fare; which is 50 cents. The ID card must be shown each time you board the bus.

For eligible riders who are elderly and/or have a disability that prevents them from riding the fixed route service, WSTA operates Trans-AID, a paratransit service for elderly and disabled passengers. For information on how to qualify for eligibility to use Trans-AID services, contact the WSTA ADA Coordinator, at 336-727-2000.

Bike and Ride
Whether you use your bike for transportation, exercise or recreation, WSTA's bike racks allow you to extend your trip by biking to or from a bus stop. You can bike part of the way and connect with a bus route, so you can bring your bike along for fun at your destination and enjoy a bus ride home.

Use your bike for a real workout, knowing you can catch the bus home. If weather is not cooperating with you as you take your exercise, get out of the rain by grabbing a bus ride home.

You pay a fare, but your bike rides free!
